Let’s admit one thing – we are poor at remembering multiple names of the same animals or even the names of similar-looking animals.
A lot of still get confused between a rabbit and a hare, alligator and crocodile, and Lizard and Chamelion. So it is understandable that a lot of us are unaware of Nepali names of animals as well. Since a lot of us live in urban areas where there are very few animals, we can get by knowing a few common Nepali names of animals. And unless you are planning to travel to rural areas and stay there for a while, you virtually have no need to know these Nepali names of Animals.

One of the biggest confusion when it comes to Nepali names of animals that we hear often is the one between Chamero and Latokosero. We understand where this comes from. Both flies, both scream at night, both are mysterious and both are rarely seen by normal people. But while one is a bird, another is a flying mammal. Chamero is the Nepali name for Bat and Latokosero is the Nepali name for Owl.
